Lord Gabriel Phel wants one thing: to restore his shattered House to its former station in the Convocation’s complex and arcane society. This review was originally written on Goodreads and the Libri Draconis blog. Thought-provoking and sometimes necessarily uncomfortable in its message, Dark Wizard is the first book in Kennedy’s Bonds of Magic series.

I went into this book assuming classic Fantasy-Romance content, and while the book certainly delivered on genre expectations, it genuinely surprised me with how it tied romance into its unique world-building and magic system and used it as a social commentary on slavery and self-worth. Dark Wizard by Jeffe Kennedy certainly falls into that category. Boston Underworld collection by A.There’s something to be said about a book that truly surprises its readers with an unexpected message.

Red sister (Book of the Ancestor) by Mark Lawrence I dnf the last couple books that I started, which were the following: consensual non-monogamy, and I'm bored by the "marriage and then children and the life is perfect" storyline or a heroine who changes who she is for a guy. Also I'm interested (but not a necessity) in books with a bit more modern relationship concepts e.g. I'd really like some steamy and smutty action in the story but it doesn't need to be over the top.

in the curse of the gods series), especially when it depicts a toxic relationship. Also the whole "she is a damsel in distress that needs saving by huge and very jealous alpha male(s)" is so over the top in many books, that it has become a bit of a reason for me to dnf a book (e.g. I'd rather read a thousand pages, where the plot is understandable, doesn't rush through and the characters have actual personalities than a 250 pages book where the story and world building feels unfinished. I am in need of good (fantasy optional) romance books and series recommendations with a strong fmc that have interesting and complex characters.
